Case Against

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Subject

Secondary care

Case Reference Number

202600364

Outcome

Early resolution

Miss C complained about the care that she and her baby received from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, before, during and after her baby’s birth.

The Ombudsman decided that the Health Board had provided a detailed response to most of Miss C’s concerns but had not always explained the medical terminology it used. Some important issues had not been fully addressed and the Ombudsman considered that there may be further opportunities for service improvement. The Ombudsman decided to settle the complaint without an investigation.

The Ombudsman sought and gained the Health Board’s agreement to contact Miss C within a month to offer a meeting to discuss and explain the care that was provided to her baby, and consider whether any additional action could be taken to improve the service it provides. The Health Board also agreed to provide Miss C with a written summary of the meeting and any action it agrees to take, within two months.
