A member of the public (“the Complainant”) alleged that during a telephone conversation, a Member of Tonyrefail Community Council made a “disability discriminating remark”.
The Ombudsman started an investigation to consider paragraphs 4(a) (equality of opportunity), 4(b) (respect and consideration) and 6(1)(a) (disrepute) of the Code of Conduct. Information was obtained from the Council, the Complainant and the Member.
Taking into account the Complainant’s wishes and the information obtained during the investigation, under Section 70 of the Local Government Act 2000, the Ombudsman decided that it was not in the public interest to continue the investigation. Therefore, the investigation was discontinued.
