Mr X complained about the ongoing wait for a colorectal surgical procedure. Specifically, he was concerned that the Health Board had stated (following a previous complaint made in 2022) that this surgery would be undertaken in September 2022 and, despite having a pre-operative assessment in 2023, he was still waiting. He had contacted the Health Board who had indicated that the surgery would now be next year. He felt like his case was being ignored.

The Ombudsman noted that in his complaint, Mr X had referred to matters which had happened since the Health Board’s previous complaint response in 2022. These had not been formally responded to by the Health Board. The Health Board therefore agreed to provide a formal written response to Mr X’s complaint within 10 working days. It was also noted that an appointment with a consultant had now been arranged to review Mr X.
