Ms X complained that the Health Board failed to correctly diagnose her condition during 9 years of fertility treatment which included 2 unsuccessful rounds of In Vitro Fertilisation (“IVF”). She believed that her Fallopian Tubes should have been removed prior to receiving treatment as the conditions diagnosed could otherwise have significantly reduced the chances of success.
In considering Ms X’s complaint the Ombudsman noted that the Health Board was yet to conclude its investigation from 8 November 2021.
The Health Board agreed to issue an immediate apology together with an update to Ms X and to endeavour to conclude its investigation by 22 July 2022. The Ombudsman considered this an acceptable resolution as an alternative to an investigation.
