Case Against

Hywel Dda University Health Board

Subject

Clinical treatment outside hospital

Case Reference Number

202001980

Outcome

Not Upheld

Ms X complained about the care and treatment that she received from Hywel Dda University Health Board(“the Health Board”). Specifically, Ms X complained that the Health Board did not appropriately investigate and treat the causes of her back pain between October 2018 and January 2020, or the causes of her hip pain between October 2019 and January 2020. Ms X also complained that the Health Board’s Pain Management Service did not provide her with reasonable and timely treatment between January 2019 and January 2020.

The investigation found that the Health Board investigated the causes of Ms X’s back pain appropriately, but could not identify the cause of her pain. It also completed appropriate investigations into her hip pain, but again, no cause could be identified. Because there was no clear cause, Ms X’s pain was treated. Whilst the investigation identified a delay in offering treatment to Ms X, this was not so lengthy as to be unreasonable, and was in line with guidance. For these reasons, the complaint was not upheld.
