Mrs A complained about the care and treatment that her mother received from a GP Practice in the area of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board in May 2022. Specifically, Mrs A complained that her mother should have been admitted to hospital on 26 May 2022and that her legs should have been examined on the same date.
The Ombudsman found that the care and treatment provided by the GP Practice was clinically appropriate and the decision not to admit Mrs A’s mother to hospital was reasonable. She found that the GP’s assessment of her mother’s physiological observations was appropriate to make this decision. The Ombudsman also found that the GP would have faced considerable obstacles in removing Mrs A’s mother’s leg dressings for examinations, as such a procedure would not be expected within the competence of a GP and they would not be expected to carry dressings for a specialised nursing situation.
Mrs A’s complaint about the GP Practice was therefore not upheld.
