Case Against

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

Subject

Clinical treatment in hospital

Case Reference Number

202308349

Outcome

Early resolution

Miss A complained that Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board took 18 months to diagnose a fracture in her foot and that she was not given appropriate advice or treatment. Miss A said that she was dissatisfied with the Health’s Board’s complaint response.
The Ombudsman decided that the Health Board’s complaint investigation did not review the x-ray images and therefore it did not establish if the x-ray reports were accurate. Without this information, the Health Board could not confirm if Miss A’s care and treatment was appropriate, and it could not properly consider qualifying liability. The Ombudsman decided to settle the complaint without an investigation.
The Ombudsman sought and gained the Health Board’s agreement to review the x-ray images and the accuracy of the reports, confirm if the care and treatment was appropriate, and reconsider qualifying liability in line the Putting Things Right Regulations within 20 working days.
