Case Against

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board

Subject

Clinical treatment in hospital

Case Reference Number

202006105

Outcome

Not Upheld

Mrs C complained about the care and treatment her husband, Mr C, received at the Royal Gwent Hospital between 23 November and 4 December 2018. In particular, she was unhappy with the monitoring of Mr C’s potassium levels, the care before and after his 2 cardiac arrests and the decisions with regard to the clotting issues he experienced during his admission.
The Ombudsman found that the monitoring of Mr C’s potassium levels was appropriate and prior to both Mr C’s cardiac arrests the levels were not at a level where an arrest would have been regarded as a high risk. The Ombudsman also found that the clotting issues Mr C experienced when he was receiving dialysis did not cause any complications thereafter.
The Ombudsman did not uphold Mrs C’s complaint.
