Case Against

Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council

Subject

Admissions procedures and appeals

Case Reference Number

202602232

Outcome

Early resolution

Miss A complained that she was dissatisfied with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s response to her complaint. She said that she was left with unanswered questions about the consideration given to her daughter’s safety and wellbeing, and uncertainty about whether the Council followed correct procedures, when making a decision about another pupil.

The Ombudsman decided that although the Council could not share information about another pupil, it had not provided a clear explanation or thorough response to Miss A’s concerns about its responsibility towards her daughter, and how it ensured that it met that responsibility. She decided to settle the complaint without an investigation.

The Ombudsman sought and gained the Council’s agreement to apologise to Miss A and provide a response to her specific concerns, within 4 weeks.
