We are Pembrokeshire People First, we are a small registered charity run by and for people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We are based in Haverfordwest, but covering all of Pembrokeshire and in regional projects we also work across the Hywel Dda footprint of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. We grew out of the self advocacy movement, but over the years we have evolved, still supporting and empowering self advocacy, small scale ‘advocacy light’ for our members. Additionally, we run a range of holistic projects, such as Art and Design through the MOR Project, supporting people through change through the Moving On Project, political empowerment through our Campaigns Group, we run ‘well being’ groups, social clubs, acting and self expression through the ‘Take a Bow’ project and we link with partner agencies in service developments and consultation. We also develop and deliver bespoke training in partnership with people with ‘lived experience’.
We work with and alongside people with learning disabilities and/or autism. As a Member led organisation we are run by and behalf of those communities in the Pembrokeshire area.
We cover primarily Pembrokeshire but we also work within Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion in our Regional Projects.
We have previously run a comprehensive advocacy service, but that is now provided for on a regional basis by West Wales Advocacy, we still however offer advice and support to our Members and signposting. Our Members are keen self advocates in line with the People First Movement and ethos.
