Mrs A complained about her husband’s management and care at the Grange Hospital during his admission in 2025. Mr A who, has advanced motor neurone disease (“MND”), is dependent on a non-invasive ventilation machine (“NIV”) 24 hours a day. Despite her request, staff who did not understand how his NIV operated had affected the settings. Mrs A noted that their actions had caused Mr A breathing difficulties which had been traumatising for him.
As part of an early resolution settlement the Health Board agreed to carry out certain actions which included providing a further fulsome apology to Mr and Mrs A. It also agreed to provide them with further information, including an updated action plan of the measures it had taken as a result of their complaint. The Health Board also agreed to take forward actions which centred around Mr A’s needs and any reasonable adjustments.
