Case Against

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

Subject

Clinical treatment in hospital

Case Reference Number

202408802

Outcome

Not Upheld

Mrs B complained about the care and treatment her husband, Mr B, received from the Health Board in relation to his abdominal aortic aneurysm (“AAA,” a swelling in the aorta, the artery that carries blood from the heart to the abdomen). Specifically, Mrs B queried whether the care, treatment and eventual surgery Mr B received following a scan in June 2024, was appropriate and whether the Health Board should have acted more quickly when his AAA increased in size and eventually burst open.

The investigation found that the care, treatment and surgery Mr B received in relation to his AAA, following his scan, was appropriate and no failing occurred. Consequently, the complaint was not upheld.
